Halong Bay

Monday was a full day trip to Halong Bay. It was an extremely long Coach trip to from Hanoi. We had a lovely lunch on the boat followed by sailing around the bay and a walk around one of the caves. It was very peaceful sailing. However, having been to Phuket, unfortunately, Halong Bay is a bit of a let down and the caves are not as exciting. I hope also hoped to see more of the floating villages, but not much was seen. It was an enjoyable day, but not sure I would recommend the 4 hour drive to get there.

Early night last night as had to get up at 5am to catch a plane to Hue. Started with a drive through the cloudy mountains the divide North and South which was very scenic. It is amazing how different the scenery can be in each place.

Arrived in Hue about lunchtime, superb hotel With views over perfume river. Went for a walk, but the begging and harassment is over bearing. I had expected Hue to be quieter than Hanoi, but it's much more intimidating on the streets. in Hanoi I felt safe except when crossing the road, here I do not feel so comfortable. I was going to go to the beach but it is raining! this evening am going to try one of the local restaurants with another person on the tour so it might be better walking around with someone else.

Tomorrow we have a full day organised tour. At least in a group you do not get harassed but sitting all day with people coughing and spluttering is quite disgusting and I now feel like I have all their germs and am coming down with a cold!

  1. You need one of those masks! Hope you're okay and not germ ridden. There are a lot of homeless people in SF and they approach you all the time but I imagine where you are it's much worse. Take care x

  2. I am bloody germ ridden which is not surprising couped up on a coach for two days with all those germs! It's the begging and scamming that is so tiresome. When I wentout this evening though it was much better. Hope your having a great time, suppose you have to expect beggars in the cities. Xxx
